In addition to the growing collection of artifacts and exhibits, the Milwaukee Public Museum has an aging building. Despite the museum’s popularity, its accreditation is at risk and its aging building could no longer accommodate its collection. With an enrollment of half a million people each year, it’s no wonder why this museum is so popular. Its permanent exhibits span the globe, including an exhibit on each continent. The museum’s most popular exhibit, Streets of Old Milwaukee, features fully furnished replicas of late 19th century Milwaukee homes and shops. It is estimated that the museum’s collection includes over four million artifacts.

The Milwaukee Public Museum is one of the best places to learn about the human past. Visitors can learn about ancient creatures, human history, and nature. There are live butterflies and even a 14,000-year-old mammoth skeleton. There is also a life-size diorama of early 1900s Milwaukee, and a re-created century-old village. The museum hopes to break ground on a new site in late 2023. It plans to share its new facility with the Betty Brinn Children’s Museum, which hopes to open in 2026. This new building will be owned by the Wisconsin Museum of Nature and Culture, Inc., which owns the building and its collections. This project is dependent upon final approval from the County Board of Milwaukee. A final decision is expected by March 24.

The museum also hosts rotating special exhibits. These give visitors an opportunity to explore other cultures without ever leaving Milwaukee. Some of the most popular exhibitions include the Andy Warhol exhibit and the Salvador Dali exhibit. You can also explore the museum’s history by viewing the history of the Milwaukee Public Museum’s founders, Patrick Haggerty and Beatrice Haggerty. They founded Texas Instruments, a technology company. The museum is dedicated to the education and advancement of the community.
